Slate Auto Launches Affordable Modular EV Pickup Truck
Slate Auto, an electric vehicle manufacturer supported by Amazon.com Inc. founder Jeff Bezos, has introduced its modular electric pickup truck.
Truck Details: The new two-seater pickup features a retro aesthetic reminiscent of classic vehicles from brands like Ford Motor Co.. During a launch event held in Long Beach, California, the company announced a competitive pricing strategy, setting the truck’s post-federal EV credit price at $20,000. Consumers can reserve their trucks on the company website with a $50 deposit.
At the event, Slate’s CEO, Chris Barman, stated, “We are building the affordable vehicle that has long been promised but never been delivered.”
The modular design allows customers to choose between a two-seater pickup or a five-seater SUV version. The official website features 25 starter kits, each designed for different user needs.
Consumers can expect a standard range of 150 miles, with an optional longer battery pack extending the range to 240 miles on a single charge. Specifications indicate a hauling capacity of 1,400 lbs, a towing capacity of 1,000 lbs, and a five-foot-long bed.
Color options for the truck are limited, as it comes only in a standard gray finish. However, customers may select a wrap in various colors upon ordering. Notably, the truck offers no stereo system or touchscreen display.
