SpaceX Expands GPU Capacity for AI Initiatives
SpaceX is set to acquire an additional 440,000 Nvidia GPUs, specifically the GB300 Blackwell model, aiming to enhance its computing infrastructure significantly. The company expects to have 220,000 GPUs operational within days, with the full deployment by October. This follows the existing 780,000 Blackwell and Hopper processors already running in its data centers.
The strategic move, announced in late September 2023, not only positions SpaceX to lease excess compute capacity to clients like Anthropic and Alphabet—potentially generating around $26 billion annually—but also lays the groundwork for supporting its expanding AI operations. This setup could create substantial revenue streams as SpaceX plans to increase its capabilities, with projections indicating the potential for market capital growth in the long term.
In the context of its financial performance, SpaceX generated $18.7 billion in revenue in 2025, despite incurring a $4.9 billion loss. As it ramps up AI-focused initiatives, the additional computational resources could prove pivotal for its aspirations of launching space-based data centers by 2028.
