Hog Bulls Bounce Back in Wednesday Market Activity

On July 7, lean hog futures increased between 12 to 80 cents. The USDA reported a national base hog price of $111.90, down 12 cents from the previous day, while the CME Lean Hog Index fell by $1.00 to $107.33.

The USDA’s PM FOB plant pork cutout value rose by 5 cents to $112.06. Notably, the day’s estimated hog slaughter was 478,000 head, bringing the week-to-date total to 1.425 million head, an increase of 11,000 head from the previous week and 9,083 head higher than last year.

Closing prices for futures on July 25 were: Jul at $107.100 (up $0.125), Aug at $107.225 (up $0.450), and Oct at $93.775 (up $0.800).
