Hog Prices Experience Upward Trend on Monday

On Monday, October 3, lean hog futures generally rose between 15 to 77 cents, with the exception of October futures, which fell by $0.05. The national average base hog price increased to $76.68, up $1.79 from the previous day, while the CME Lean Hog Index stood at $84.83, a decrease of $0.07 from the prior day. USDA reported the FOB plant pork cutout value at $96.05 per cwt, rising by $1.74, with estimated FI hog slaughter at 488,000 head, an increase of 3,000 from the previous Monday and 6,606 higher than the same time last year.

In contrast, China’s August hog slaughter was reported at 24.4 million head, marking a 7.7% decline from the same month last year.
