On Monday, lean hog futures increased between $1.97 and $2.55, with the USDA reporting a national average base hog price of $106.12, a rise of $1.17 from the previous day. The CME Lean Hog Index also rose by $1.06 to reach $102.81.
The USDA reported the FOB plant pork cutout value at $119.48, up $1.42, while federally inspected hog slaughter was estimated at 478,000 head, a decrease of 2,000 from last week but an increase of 18,328 compared to the same week last year.
