Lean hog futures saw mixed results on Monday, October 26, with October futures rising slightly by $0.025 to close at $78.250. The rest of the board declined between $0.55 and $1.27. Open interest increased by 723 contracts. The USDA reported a national base hog price of $79.22, an increase of $0.54, while the CME Lean Hog Index dropped $0.44 to $81.76.
The USDA also noted a $1.06 rise in the pork carcass cutout value, now at $87.80, with the belly primal being the only cut that was lower. Federally inspected hog slaughter for the day was estimated at 491,000 head, which is 26,000 more than the previous Monday and 2,791 above the same day last year.
