Hogs Bounce Back with Strong Monday Performance

Lean hog futures rose on Monday, with nearby contracts increasing by $1.25 to $1.725. The national average base hog price fell by 28 cents to $82.72. The CME Lean Hog Index was recorded at $90.09 as of August 15, down 11 cents from the previous day.

The USDA reported a decrease in the FOB plant pork cutout value, which fell by $1.58 to $97.09 per cwt. The estimated hog slaughter for Monday was 483,000 head, consistent with the prior week and 13,062 head higher than the same day last year.
