Hogs Bounce Back with Strong Performance on Tuesday

Lean hog futures gained between $1 and $1.20 on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, with the USDA’s national base hog price reported at $89.52, a decrease of 22 cents from the previous day. The CME Lean Hog Index also fell by 54 cents, reaching $95.58.

USDA reported the pork carcass cutout value at $100.59 per cwt, down $1.49. The only primal to increase in value was the belly. Federally inspected hog slaughter for Tuesday was estimated at 492,000 head, contributing to a weekly total of 984,000 head, which is up 8,000 from the previous week and 14,480 above the same week last year.
