Hogs Continue Winning Streak on Thursday

On Thursday, lean hog futures increased by $1.40 to $1.90, with the USDA’s national base hog price averaging $110.70, down $2.02 from Wednesday. The CME Lean Hog Index rose by $0.01, closing at $107.20 on July 15.

The USDA reported a pork cutout value of $116.32 per cwt, up $1.58 from the previous day, while hog slaughter estimates for Thursday reached 473,000 head, bringing the weekly total to 1.870 million head, which is 21,000 head lower than the previous week and 38,059 head less than last year.

In the week ending July 10, weekly pork export sales stood at 17,100 MT, a decrease of about 30% from the prior week, with Mexico and Japan as the leading buyers. Export shipments for the week totaled 26,500 MT.
