Hogs Decline on Thursday

On October 21, lean hog futures are trading 45 to 70 cents lower, with the USDA’s national base hog price reported at $86.35, a decrease of 68 cents from the previous day. The CME Lean Hog Index fell 80 cents to $94.18.

The USDA’s pork carcass cutout value is down 91 cents to $98.84 per cwt. Federally inspected hog slaughter totaled 493,000 head on Wednesday, bringing the weekly total to 1.472 million head, which is an increase of 4,000 head from last week and 16,864 head more than the same week last year.
