Hogs Decline on Tuesday

Lean hog futures closed on Tuesday with declines ranging from 15 to 62 cents. The USDA’s national base hog report indicated a price of $106.29, up by 42 cents from Monday. The CME Lean Hog Index remained unchanged at $106.14 as of September 12.

According to the USDA’s Tuesday morning report, the FOB plant pork cutout price fell by $1.79 to $112.28 per cwt, with all primals reported lower. Estimated federally inspected hog slaughter for Tuesday was 488,000 head, bringing the weekly total to 978,000 head, which is 8,000 head larger than the previous week and 26,610 head above the same week last year.
