Lean hog futures closed mixed on Tuesday, with July contracts down 42 cents at $94.225 and August contracts up 50 cents at $97.225. The USDA reported the national base hog price decreased by 51 cents to $97.26, while the CME Lean Hog Index fell by 53 cents to $91.64 as of June 19.
USDA’s pork carcass cutout value also declined by 85 cents to $95.23 per cwt, with the ham primal being the only higher reported cut. Federally inspected hog slaughter on Tuesday reached 486,000 head, bringing the weekly total to 942,000, which is a decrease of 21,000 from the previous week but an increase of 12,996 compared to the same week last year.
