Lean hog futures declined on Monday, with contracts down 12 to 70 cents at the close. The USDA reported a national base hog price of $84.66, up 49 cents from the previous day, while the CME Lean Hog Index fell by 34 cents to $91.19 on October 30.
The USDA’s pork carcass cutout value decreased by 30 cents to $101.65 per cwt. Additionally, federally inspected hog slaughter was estimated at 493,000 head, unchanged from last week and 4,974 head higher than the same week last year.
Key futures include Dec 25 Hogs at $80.600 (down $0.675), Feb 26 Hogs at $82.200 (down $0.325), and Apr 26 Hogs at $86.100 (down $0.125).
