On Tuesday, lean hog futures experienced mixed results, with prices ranging from up 95 cents to down 35 cents. The USDA reported a national average for hogs at $106.93, while the CME Lean Hog Index decreased by one penny to $105.91 on September 5.
The USDA also noted a drop in the FOB plant pork cutout, which fell by 81 cents to $115.57 per cwt. Monday’s federally inspected hog slaughter reached 488,000 head, which is significantly higher than the previous week’s holiday numbers but 3,338 head less than the same week last year.
