Hogs Experience Decline Midweek

Lean hog futures are trading down 37 cents to $1.90 at midday on April 3. The CME Lean Hog Index increased by 13 cents to $90.06. Meanwhile, USDA’s pork carcass cutout value decreased by 72 cents to $97.10 per cwt.

USDA reported a federally inspected hog slaughter of 497,000 head on Tuesday, bringing the weekly total to 864,000 head. This figure is 122,000 head lower than the previous week and 110,441 head fewer than the same week last year.

As of April 3, April 26 Hogs are priced at $90.40 (down $0.375), May 26 Hogs at $96.825 (down $1.575), and June 26 Hogs at $105.150 (down $1.900).
