Lean hog futures experienced losses ranging from 10 to 60 cents on Friday. The USDA reported the national base hog price at $68.56, while the CME Lean Hog Index decreased by 27 cents to $80.98 as of January 7.
USDA’s pork carcass cutout value rose by $4.94 to $95.73 per cwt, with all primals reporting increases, particularly the belly, which jumped $12.17. Estimated federal inspected hog slaughter for Thursday reached 496,000 head, contributing to a total of 1.977 million head for the week, which is 73,159 heads higher than the same week last year.
