Hogs Experience Decline This Friday

Lean hog futures decreased on Friday, with contracts trading 45 to 85 cents lower. The USDA reported a national base hog price of $90.76, while the CME Lean Hog Index stood at $90.66—an increase of 6 cents since April 15.

In the USDA’s Friday AM report, the pork carcass cutout value rose by $3.48, reaching $100.16 per cwt. The estimated federally inspected hog slaughter for Thursday was 491,000 head, bringing the week-to-date total to 1.968 million head, which is 128,000 head more than the previous week and 29,670 head above the same week last year.

Closing prices for hog futures were as follows: May 26 Hogs at $93.200 (down $0.850), June 26 Hogs at $101.050 (down $0.625), and July 26 Hogs at $103.900 (down $0.450).
