Lean hog futures closed lower on Monday, with losses ranging from 32 cents to $1.55. The USDA reported the national base hog price at $94.44, reflecting a $1.90 increase from the previous day. Meanwhile, the CME Lean Hog Index decreased by 11 cents to $91.30 as of April 30.
The USDA’s pork carcass cutout value fell by 23 cents to $97.36 per cwt. Notably, only the loin, rib, and ham primals recorded declines. The estimated federally inspected hog slaughter for Monday reached 490,000 head, which is up 6,000 from the previous week and 9,118 more than the same week last year.
