**Lean Hog Futures Update – May 6, 2023**

Lean hog futures are mixed, with midday contracts rising between 40 to 60 cents. The USDA did not report the national base hog price due to thin trading, but the 5-day rolling average stands at $95.11. The CME Lean Hog Index declined by 17 cents to $91.02.

On May 5, USDA reported a pork carcass cutout value of $97.71 per cwt, an increase of $2.11. The agency estimated Thursday’s federally inspected hog slaughter at 484,000 head, bringing the weekly total to 1.928 million head—down by 12,000 from the previous week but up by 9,883 from the same week last year.
