On Tuesday, October 26, lean hog futures dropped between $1.00 and $1.77 at the close. The USDA reported the national base hog price at $93.52, an increase of 90 cents from the previous day. The CME Lean Hog Index was recorded at $95.47 on August 14, down 21 cents.
The USDA’s pork carcass cutout value rose by 37 cents to $99.12. Federally inspected hog slaughter was estimated at 476,000 head for Tuesday, bringing the weekly total to 960,000, which is up by 22,000 head from the previous week and 791 head higher than the same week last year.
