Lean hog futures saw increases of 20 to 50 cents in the front months on Tuesday, January 9, 2023. The USDA reported a national base hog price of $70, with the CME Lean Hog Index down 25 cents at $80.60. The USDA’s pork carcass cutout value fell $1.30 to $91.80 per cwt, with only rib and ham primals reporting an increase.
In terms of slaughter numbers, the USDA estimated a federally inspected hog slaughter for Tuesday at 474,000 head, bringing the weekly total to 991,000—2,000 head less than the previous week but 62,597 head more than the same week last year. February 2026 hogs closed at $84.625, April 2026 at $91.250, and May 2026 at $95.425.
