Hogs Maintain Consistent Upward Trend Through Midweek

Lean hog futures experienced gains of 20 to 75 cents across most contracts, except for August futures, which fell by 5 cents. On Wednesday afternoon, the USDA reported the national base hog price at $101.08, an increase of 86 cents from the previous day. The CME Lean Hog Index rose by 48 cents to $96.64 as of July 20.

In the same report, the USDA noted that the pork carcass cutout value decreased by $1.32 to $103.50, with only the loin, butt, and picnic primal cuts rising. Federally inspected hog slaughter for Wednesday was estimated at 479,000 head, totaling 1.38 million for the week so far—a drop of 20,000 from the prior week and 17,913 below the same week last year.

For specific contracts, August 2026 hogs closed at $101.450, down $0.050; October 2026 hogs at $88.350, up $0.225; and December 2026 hogs at $79.825, up $0.575.
