Hogs Maintain Declines Through Monday’s Market End

On Monday, lean hog futures declined by 80 cents to $1.025 in the front months, while the CME Lean Hog Index fell by 13 cents to $80.85 as of January 8. The USDA did not report its national base hog price due to low trading volume.

The USDA reported a pork carcass cutout value of $93.10 per cwt, up 78 cents, with only the butt primal showing a decrease. Additionally, federally inspected hog slaughter was estimated at 497,000 head, which is 1,000 head below last Monday but 13,474 head higher compared to the same week last year.
