Hogs Maintain Stability on Tuesday

On Tuesday, the USDA reported that the national base hog price increased by 99 cents to $89.64. Lean hog futures fluctuated with contracts varying from up a dime to down a nickel during midday trading. The CME Lean Hog Index dropped by 66 cents to $90.86 on August 28.

In Tuesday’s report, the USDA’s pork carcass cutout value showed a slight increase of one penny, reaching $97.68, although prices for loin, picnic, and belly primals declined. Federally inspected hog slaughter for Monday was estimated at 476,000, which is 7,000 more than the previous Monday.

Current lean hog futures include October 26 at $83.750 (up $0.075), December 26 at $74.250 (up $0.100), and February 27 at $76.475 (down $0.050).
