**Lean Hog Futures Update – January 24, 2023**

On January 24, 2023, lean hog futures exhibited mixed results, showing nearby contracts fluctuate within a dime of unchanged. The USDA reported that the national base hog price was not available due to light trading volume, while the CME Lean Hog Index rose by 13 cents to $83.84 as of December 24.

In the same report, USDA noted a decrease in the pork carcass cutout value, which fell by $1.75 to $95.96 per cwt. The estimated federally inspected hog slaughter for Monday was 444,000 head, marking a decline of 52,000 from the previous week and a decrease of 41,060 from the same week last year.
