Hogs Make a Strong Comeback Monday

Lean hog futures rose on April 25, 2023, with gains of $1.45 to $2.85. The USDA reported the national average base hog price at $88.05, down $1 from the previous day, while the CME Lean Hog Index fell by 19 cents to $89.55.

The USDA’s afternoon FOB plant pork cutout price increased by 27 cents to $97.65 per cwt, with only the loin and belly primals showing higher prices. The estimated Federally inspected hog slaughter for the month was 487,000 head, remaining steady compared to the previous week and up by 5,964 head year-over-year.
