Lean hogs experienced losses on Monday, closing down between 55 cents and $1.05. The USDA National Base Hog price was reported at $76.91, a decrease of $7.16 from the previous day, while the CME Lean Hog Index rose 11 cents to $93.64 as of August 1.
USDA’s FOB plant pork cutout value fell by 3 cents to $104.28 per cwt. The estimated Monday FI hog slaughter reached 411,000 head, down 62,000 from the previous week and 7,332 fewer than the same period last year.
In trading, August 24 Hogs closed at $91.150, October 24 Hogs at $75.725, and December 24 Hogs at $68.600, reflecting respective declines of $1.050, $0.850, and $0.550.
