Lean hog futures saw a slight increase of 25 cents for the nearby October contract, closing at $98.675 on October 25, while December and February contracts fell by 20 to 60 cents. Preliminary open interest decreased by 5,292 contracts. The CME Lean Hog Index also experienced a decline, dropping 47 cents to $104.26 as of September 30.
USDA reported a national base hog price but withheld the data due to packer submission issues. The FOB plant pork cutout price was $107.35 per cwt, down $1 from the previous report. Estimated federally inspected hog slaughter reached 490,000 head for Thursday, with a cumulative total of 1.939 million for the week, which is 5,000 head more than last week but 3,558 head fewer than the same week last year.
