Hogs Rally Moving Towards Friday

Lean hog futures are experiencing gains between 50 cents and $1.02 midday, with August 26 contracts at $101.30, up $1.025. The USDA reported the national base hog price at $96.68 on Friday morning, a decline of $3.49 from the previous day. The CME Lean Hog Index increased by 50 cents to $95.10 as of July 15.

USDA’s pork carcass cutout value rose by $2.85 to $105.27, with only the rib primal reporting a decrease. Estimated federally inspected hog slaughter for Thursday was 479,000 head, bringing the weekly total to 1.879 million head—15,000 head less than the previous week but 12,162 head more than the same week last year.
