Hogs Show Resilience with Midday Gains

Lean hog futures are experiencing stable trade with December contracts showing no change at $82.500, while other contracts increased by 50 cents to $1. The CME Lean Hog Index rose by 5 cents to $81.89 as of December 8. The USDA’s pork carcass cutout value also increased, reaching $96.77 per cwt, a rise of 33 cents.

On December 5, the USDA estimated that federally inspected hog slaughter totaled 493,000 head, bringing the week-to-date total to 981,000 head. This count is 10,000 head higher than the previous week and 9,285 head above the same week last year.
