Lean hog futures have decreased by 50 cents, with the USDA’s national base hog price reported at $81.77 on September 15. The CME Lean Hog Index also declined by 79 cents, reaching $85.02 on the same date.
The USDA reported a decrease of 86 cents in the pork carcass cutout value, now at $86.68, with declines noted in the butt, picnic, and ham primals. Federally inspected hog slaughter for Thursday was estimated at 493,000 head, bringing the weekly total to 1.951 million head, which exceeds last year’s figures by 9,363 head.
Current futures prices include: October 26 Hogs at $78.325 (down $0.575), December 26 Hogs at $68.750 (down $0.850), and February 27 Hogs at $70.125 (down $1.000).
