Lean hog futures experienced losses of 25 to 92 cents across front months on Tuesday. The USDA reported a national base hog price of $84.92 and a CME Lean Hog Index of $86.46, reflecting a decrease of 11 cents as of February 6.
In the same morning report, USDA’s pork carcass cutout value rose 57 cents to $96.40 per cwt, with the loin and rib being the only cuts reported lower. Additionally, federally inspected hog slaughter was estimated at 490,000 head on Monday, an increase of 46,000 from the previous week and 859 more than the same week last year.
For specific contracts, February Hogs were priced at $86.850 (down $0.250), April Hogs at $95.800 (down $0.925), and May Hogs at $99.925 (down $0.450).
