Lean hog futures rose by 12 to 77 cents on Wednesday. The USDA’s national base hog price decreased by $2.27 to $92.10, while the CME Lean Hog Index fell by 69 cents to $94.78 as of August 17.
The USDA also reported a pork carcass cutout value of $97.58, down $1.54, with only rib and belly primals showing gains. Estimated federally inspected hog slaughter for Wednesday stood at 476,000 head, bringing the weekly total to 1.436 million, which is 14,000 above the previous week but down 619 from the same week last year.
In futures trading, October 26 Hogs closed at $81.500 (up $0.775), December 26 Hogs at $71.425 (up $0.500), and February 27 Hogs at $74.250 (up $0.250).
