Hogs Surge on Thursday Trading

On Thursday, lean hog futures are seeing gains of 5 to 30 cents across most contracts. The USDA reported a national base hog price increase of $2.48 to $111.82, while the CME Lean Hog Index rose by 10 cents to $110.51 as of July 29.

Pork export sales for the week ending July 24 totaled 17,003 MT, marking a six-week low, while shipments increased to 27,573 MT. USDA’s Thursday AM FOB plant pork cutout value fell by $1.51 to $114.49 per cwt, with cuts like rib and belly reporting substantial drops. Estimated hog slaughter stood at 478,000 for Wednesday, bringing the weekly total to 1.388 million head, which is 39,349 heads lower compared to the same week last year.

Current prices for August, October, and December 2025 hogs are $107.075 (up $0.050), $89.400 (up $0.200), and $81.475 (up $0.275), respectively.
