Hogs Surge to Weekly Highs

Lean hog futures are trading with gains of 57 cents to $1.15 at midday on December 3. The USDA’s national base hog price increased to $72.52, a rise of $0.44 from the previous day. The CME Lean Hog Index also rose, reaching $81.83.

The USDA reported a pork carcass cutout value of $96.83 per cwt, up by $3.50. For the week, federally inspected hog slaughter reached 1.943 million head, surpassing last year’s numbers by 10,127 head, with Thursday’s estimate at 490,000 head.

Specific futures prices include December 25 Hogs at $81.700 (up $0.575), February 26 Hogs at $82.650 (up $0.800), and April 26 Hogs at $86.925 (up $1.150).
