On Friday, lean hog futures reported gains between 15 to 45 cents, while the USDA’s national base hog price went unreported due to low trading volume. As of December 17, the CME Lean Hog Index increased by 1 cent to $83.88.
The USDA’s pork carcass cutout value fell by $2.92 to $100.35 per cwt, with the loin being the only primal reported lower. The estimated federally inspected hog slaughter for Thursday was 495,000 head, bringing the weekly total to 1.957 million, which is 8,000 head below last week but 10,755 head higher than the same week last year.
