Holiday Weekend Sees Decline in Wholesale Beef Prices for Cattle

Live cattle futures fell on Thursday, with losses ranging from $2.05 to $2.60, and August futures down $6.60 for the week. In cash sales, dressed cattle traded at $403 in the north and live cattle at $255-256, while southern trade remained at $255. Feeder cattle futures also declined, with losses between $2.72 and $3.80, and August futures down $9.22 this week. The CME Feeder Cattle Index dropped by $5.74 to $371.25.

USDA data reported beef export sales for 2026 at 126,062 metric tons for the week ending June 25, marking a calendar year high, with shipments at 128,967 metric tons, also a record for 2026. The USDA’s federally inspected cattle slaughter for Thursday was estimated at 109,000 head, with a weekly total of 433,000, steady compared to the previous week but down 39,421 from the same week last year.

Wholesale boxed beef prices decreased, with choice boxes down $4.19 to $387.07 and select boxes down $2.26 to $367.43. The Chc/Sel spread was reported at $19.64.
