An Electric Challenger Emerges
The tech behemoth Huawei Technologies has set motion to unleash the Luxeed S7 electric sedan developed in collaboration with Chery Auto.
Despite setbacks from semiconductor shortages and production hiccups, mass deliveries of the Luxeed S7 have kickstarted, as per a Reuters report over the weekend, citing Richard Yu, the managing director and head of Huawei’s smart car solutions.
Issues with the computing unit provided by Huawei reportedly irked Chery earlier, as it was believed to be the root cause of delayed deliveries.
The Luxeed S7 vs. The Titans
Priced at 249,800 yuan ($35,152), the Luxeed S7 aims to outshine Tesla Inc’s premium Model S sports sedan on multiple fronts, according to Yu. Notably, the starting price of the Model S stands at a significantly higher 698,900 yuan ($98,350) in China.
In terms of price positioning, the Luxeed S7 falls within the bracket of Tesla’s mass-market vehicle, the Model 3, which starts at 245,900 yuan ($34,603).
Surge Amidst Sanctions
Despite facing headwinds from U.S. sanctions, Huawei witnessed its revenue soar at the fastest pace in four years last year, as highlighted by Reuters.
