On Wednesday, March NY world sugar #11 (SBH26) closed down by 0.21 points (-1.41%), while March London ICE white sugar #5 (SWH26) fell by 6.40 points (-1.50%). Sugar prices hit a one-week low due to increased production in Brazil, with Unica reporting a 0.9% year-over-year rise in cumulative sugar output for the 2025-26 season to 40.158 million metric tons (MMT).
Additional reports indicate Brazil’s cane crushed for sugar surged to 50.91% in 2025/26 from 48.19% in the previous season. Meanwhile, global sugar surplus projections for 2025/26 were raised to 4.7 MMT from 4.1 MMT, driven by rising outputs in Brazil, India, Thailand, and Pakistan.
The India Sugar Mill Association reported a 25% increase in Indian sugar production for the same season, totaling 11.90 MMT compared to 9.54 MMT the previous year. Forecasts also suggest a potential decline in Brazil’s future sugar production to 41.8 MMT in 2026/27, down from 43.5 MMT anticipated for 2025/26.
