Maplebear Inc. (CART), doing business as Instacart, is shifting its growth strategy beyond grocery-delivery fees by leveraging artificial intelligence, retail media, and real-time store data. In the first quarter of 2026, Instacart reported a 16% year-over-year increase in advertising revenue, totaling $286 million, while expanding its advertising partnerships to over 9,000 brands and more than 310 Carrot Ads partners.

Instacart’s dataset, comprising over 1.6 billion lifetime orders, provides insights crucial for improving customer experience in grocery shopping. The company has also launched its Storefront Pro internationally, already powering over 380 grocery e-commerce sites, with major partnerships including Costco in Spain and France. However, its cost of revenues increased by 24% to $281 million, presenting challenges alongside rising regulatory demands.

Despite ongoing expenses, Instacart’s model aims to enhance shopping relevance through AI and elevate monetization, giving it a competitive edge against major players like Amazon and Walmart, who are also expanding their advertising businesses.
