Instagram announced new restrictions for teen accounts aimed at protecting users under 18 from harmful content. Starting immediately, teens will be placed in an updated 13+ setting guided by PG-13 movie ratings, restricting the content they can view unless they receive parental permission to opt out.
The platform is introducing a ‘Limited Content’ setting that further restricts what teens can see and interact with, including removing their ability to comment on posts. According to a survey, 96% of US parents support these options for enhanced control over their children’s Instagram experience.
Beginning next year, Instagram plans to impose additional restrictions on AI conversations for users with the Limited Content filter enabled, in addition to current content settings that are already applied to these interactions.
