Intel in Talks to Acquire AI Start-Up SambaNova
Intel Corporation (NASDAQ: INTC) is reportedly negotiating to acquire AI start-up SambaNova Systems for approximately $1.6 billion. SambaNova, once valued at $5 billion, specializes in designing custom AI chips and rack-scale systems optimized for AI inference workloads. This acquisition could significantly advance Intel’s AI strategy, particularly after the company faced challenges with its previous acquisition of Habana Labs.
SambaNova has recently secured contracts to support AI inference cloud solutions in Australia, Europe, and the United Kingdom. As Intel shifts its focus from AI training to AI inference, the acquisition aligns with their strategic goals of developing fully integrated systems for data centers.
