Apple’s Alarm Issues Persist Despite iOS 18 Release
Ongoing Problems for iPhone Users
Apple Inc. AAPL continues to face backlash as users report persistent problems with their iPhone alarms, following the recent update to iOS 18.
Reddit User Raises Concerns
Earlier this week, a Reddit user named bryanlolwut shared a concerning experience. The user posted an image of an alarm set for 10:30 AM that unexpectedly rang at 12:42 AM instead.
Apple’s Previous Acknowledgment and User Frustration
Apple admitted to alarm reliability problems in response to a Today show report last year, promising a resolution. Despite this, many users still face difficulties.
Reports indicate that both iOS 17 and iOS 18 users are experiencing these issues. Some have tried disabling Apple’s Attention Awareness Features, which can lower alarm volume if a face is detected, but this solution has not worked for many users.
As of now, Apple has not replied to Benzinga’s request for comment.
Historical Context: Alarm Bugs in the Past
This isn’t the first time alarm-related problems have arisen for iPhone users. In 2017, a bug in iOS 11 caused alarms to silently activate. Although the alarm interface displayed as scheduled, the sound failed to play, leaving devices muted. Apple later confirmed the issue and rolled out a fix.
In 2023, users of iOS 17 also reported alarms not ringing, leading to oversleeping. Many found that the issues seemed to resolve after subsequent software updates.
Stock Market Reaction
On Thursday, Apple’s stock price rose by 0.20%. However, shares dropped by 0.11% during Friday’s pre-market session to $242.44, as indicated by Benzinga Pro data.
