American Tech Companies Targeted by Iran

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has announced plans to target U.S. technology companies operating in the Middle East, specifically mentioning major firms such as Amazon and Microsoft. These threats come amid ongoing conflict in the region, and the IRGC has already initiated attacks on Amazon’s data centers. Such actions could significantly impact the growth strategies of these companies, forcing them to either increase their operational expenditures or reconsider their presence in the Middle East.

Amazon, which operates multiple data centers in Bahrain and the UAE, has made significant investments in the region, including a planned $5.3 billion investment in Saudi Arabia by 2026. Despite the IRGC’s threats, the company has not scaled back its operations in the Middle East. Microsoft has also committed to a $15.2 billion investment in the UAE through 2025, while Nvidia plans to generate $15 billion to $20 billion in revenue from AI accelerator deals in Saudi Arabia by 2029. Overall, the Middle East represents a small fraction of these firms’ global operations.
