SpaceX’s Historic IPO
Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (SpaceX) raised an unprecedented $75 billion during its initial public offering (IPO) on June 18, 2023. Following additional share sales, the total offering increased to $85.7 billion. SpaceX closed its first trading day with a market valuation exceeding $2 trillion, becoming the only company to debut at this valuation.
As of June 18, 2023, SpaceX’s market cap reached $2.5 trillion, briefly surpassing Amazon as the fifth-most-valuable company globally. Analysts project that by 2031, SpaceX could be generating at least $1 trillion in revenue, with Morgan Stanley estimating revenue could hit $3.4 trillion by 2040.
Despite strong revenue forecasts, SpaceX’s current stock trades at about 134 times sales, raising concerns about its valuation sustainability. Investors are advised to proceed cautiously, as significant fluctuations could impact long-term investment outcomes.
