MercadoLibre is expanding its use of artificial intelligence (AI) to improve efficiency and user experiences within its commerce and fintech ecosystems. A key development in Q1 2026 included an AI-driven search feature, currently deployed in Brazil, Mexico, and Argentina, which enhances product relevance and boosts conversion rates. In March, the company’s Seller Assistant saw daily active users increase over 40% month over month.

The company’s logistics and financial services are also benefiting from AI, with Mercado Pago’s assistant proactively notifying users of account balances and investment opportunities. Notably, MercadoLibre’s operational productivity metrics have grown between seven to ten times faster than employee headcount expansion, highlighting the significant impact of AI on workflow efficiency. Despite reporting a 49% year-over-year increase in revenue, the operating margin has decreased from 12.9% to 6.9%, and the Zacks Consensus Estimate projects a 15.7% decline in second-quarter earnings year-over-year.
