Rivian’s R2 Electric Vehicle Pricing Strategy
Rivian Automotive (NASDAQ: RIVN) has announced that its R2 electric vehicle will launch with a starting price of $60,000, despite earlier promises of a $45,000 base model. The $60,000 version will be the first phase of production, targeting high-margin sales to offset initial production costs, with deliveries expected to begin later this year.
Lower-priced variants of the R2 are set to follow, including a premium trim priced at approximately $55,500, anticipated to launch late this year. A standard long-range model is expected in the first half of 2027 at $49,985, while the $45,000 base trim is projected for late 2027, aiming to compete directly with Tesla’s Model Y, which starts around $41,600.
