Itron and Encycle Join Forces to Enhance Energy Efficiency

Itron, Inc. (ITRI) has formed a partnership with Encycle Technologies, Inc. to boost energy management for commercial and industrial clients. This collaboration combines Encycle’s expertise in autonomous intelligence and HVAC optimization with Itron’s progressive energy and water management solutions. The primary goal is to reduce HVAC energy loads during peak demand periods, ultimately alleviating grid stress and enhancing reliability.

By leveraging advanced technologies like Encycle’s patented Swarm Logic software and Itron’s Distributed Energy Management System (DERMS), the initiative enables businesses and utilities to effectively manage energy consumption, especially during peak demand. The integration utilizes OpenADR technology, allowing seamless communication between HVAC systems and utilities. With a focus on open standards, this partnership makes it simpler for utilities to implement scalable, cost-efficient programs. The platform automates all phases of distributed energy resources (DERs) and active load management programs, enhancing energy optimization for businesses.

Participating companies can lower operational costs by tapping into demand response programs and energy-saving initiatives. This partnership equips them with the tools needed to monitor their energy usage, minimize expenses, and bolster grid reliability.

Moreover, by promoting the adoption of smart energy products connected to the grid, this collaboration supports utilities and businesses in navigating the increasing presence of DERs while tackling key energy transition challenges.

ITRI Expands Its Robust Grid Edge Intelligence Portfolio

Itron’s advanced Grid Edge Intelligence platform has shown promising growth due to several factors. Growing demand for data centers, a shift towards reindustrialization, production localization, and the electrification of transportation and housing are driving these trends. Additionally, automation in water infrastructure, gas safety applications, and digital operations are significant contributors to this growth.

Itron maintains a portfolio of innovative solutions aimed at addressing current energy challenges. In December 2024, Itron partnered with Xcel Energy to cater to Colorado’s changing energy landscape. This collaboration focuses on integrating DERs, such as residential battery energy storage, into the grid to improve flexibility and reliability, ensuring that customer demand is met. XEL plans to utilize Itron’s DERMS, a key component of Itron’s Grid Edge Intelligence portfolio, to manage the rising numbers of DERs, including residential batteries, solar panels, and EV chargers.

Thanks to rising demand, efficient operations, and planned customer shipments, Itron has upped its revenue guidance for the full year 2024. The company now anticipates revenues in the range of $2.428 billion to $2.438 billion, a notable increase from the July 2024 forecast of $2.385 billion to $2.415 billion. This enhanced outlook is expected to positively affect earnings, with non-GAAP earnings per share now forecasted between $5.28 and $5.38, compared to the previous range of $4.45 to $4.65.
