Kyocera Corporation has developed a groundbreaking meta-lens that enables optical control by manipulating focal positions based on light wavelength. This technology has led to the creation of a prototype Wearable Aerial Display, set to debut at CES 2026 from January 6-9 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The compact optical system can produce three-dimensional aerial visuals with natural depth perception.

The meta-lens, built on a metasurface with ultra-thin, sub-millimeter components, integrates multiple optical functions, allowing for a much thinner design compared to traditional lenses. Currently, the technology can project aerial images where focal positions shift according to color, suggesting future advancements may enable full-color, high-resolution visuals. This innovation could be transformative for applications in VR/AR glasses, cameras, and projection devices.
