Leopold Aschenbrenner, a former OpenAI employee, launched his AI-focused venture fund Situational Awareness in 2024 with $250 million. The fund has since grown to $5.5 billion, emphasizing AI infrastructure stocks that are showing strong performance amid an expected AI revolution. Aschenbrenner’s insights suggest that the impact of AI will far exceed current anticipations, as detailed in his publicly available thesis on artificial general intelligence (AGI).
The fund’s notable holdings include Bloom Energy, representing 16% of the portfolio and up 150% this year, and Lumentum, making up 8.7% and gaining 143%. Other key stocks include CoreWeave (7.9%, up 63%), Core Scientific (7.4%, up 36%), and Iren (6%, up 772% over the past year), illustrating the fund’s strategic alignment with the increasing demand for AI infrastructure capabilities.
